Your in luck!
OK I’m guessing you in OZ yeah, so remember the bushfires in Victoria, well apparently the control centre for co-coordinating the firefighting had trouble updating it’s online list of bushfire updates fast enough due to the speed at which the fires where moving so one of the really kewl guys from google had the idea of overlaying real time google map data over the whole area which provided ‘real time’ highly accurate bushfire data, ‘intensity and precise location and direction’.
This data was relayed to the ground from real life imagery so CFA staff were precisely positioned, therefore being much more effective in fighting the fires.
Though to get the complete story feel free to visit my blog.http://firefightingequipment.blogspot.co…
Also the Aus government apparently made it hard for google to help, sounds weird I know, apparently the government wouldn’t allow google access to government mapping, something about commonwealth law and data provisions, anyway read my article and I think there’s a link at the bottom.
